Lights Out Listening in Larbert

Lights Out Listening with FDAMH (Falkirk and District Association for Mental Health)

A one-off listening event in complete darkness...

Part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival

Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert, Tuesday 16th October 2012, 4-5pm, Lecture Theatre, Learning Centre, 3rd floor.

Mark Vernon is currently artist in residence at NHS Forth Valley. Over the past six months he has worked with members of FDAMH’s arts and media group to create and record a series of sound works, stories and ‘radio poems’ combining voice, music and sound effects. Many members of the group have got to grips with digital sound recorders and have recorded their own voices, music or sound effects for their productions. This programme is a small selection from the work recorded so far. There are future plans for a dedicated audio blog and a radio programme presented and put together by media group members which will be broadcast on Radio Royal, Forth Valley Royal’s very own hospital radio station. Everyone is welcome to come along to this free event and there will be refreshments served afterwards - so please join us for this unique listening opportunity!

The full programme from the event can now be heard here:

Robotic Helpers

In the hidden depths of the hospital robots have the right of way. Behind the scenes Forth Valley Hospital's fleet of Robots (including Betsy and Rupert) transport clinical waste, dirty linen and deliver food around the labyrinthine corridors of the basement. Here's what they sound like:

This blog is intended as an audio visual scrapbook of activities undertaken by Mark Vernon during an 18-month residency as radio/media artist at Forth Valley Hospital in Larbert.

The residency is an a PARTners initiative supported by NHS Forth Valley, Artlink Central and Creative Scotland and is kindly hosted by Radio Royal - Forth Valley Hospital's dedicated radio station.
